Capital City Lodge No 12, Harrisburg PA
Posted On: May 26, 2021
Established August 26th, 1918 by the Grand Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 12 has been representing its member police officers for almost a 100 years.  Built on the values that made our country great, Capital City Lodge 12 has fought for the rights and benefits of those who fight for the City of Harrisburg.

Lodge 12 was chartered by the Pennsylvania State Lodge in 1940 and has worked closely with them to help improve the benefits and working conditions of police officers in Harrisburg, and throughout the Commonwealth.  Today's challenges for public employees are immense, but through cooperation of organizations like Lodge 12 and the Pennsylvania State Lodge, those struggles can be addressed with our legislators to help keep our working conditions fair.

Today more than ever our right to collectively bargain (Act 111) for benefits and working conditions is being attacked by legislators.  Unfortunately some on Capitol Hill blame civil servants for the financial troubles that some municipalities have brought on themselves, in many instances, by failing to make required pension contributions or other financially sound decisions for the municipality.

Police officers choose to serve the public in conditions that most of America wouldn't even consider, from rotating or long 10 and 12 hour shifts to extreme weather and deplorable living condition on calls, they continue to protect the communities they serve for wages less than some other more comfortable and safe jobs, with the expectation of a small pension and sustainable health care. Your police officers continually have to balance their safety with preservation of other's lives and property.  Unfortunately they sometimes lose that battle, and leave families behind.

All we ask is for appreciation from law makers.  Recognize the police sacrifice and honor collective bargaining and public pensions.
